Stop at the medieval scholar's village of Reykholt and Snorrastofa before reaching the magical Hraunfossar — springs emerging from beneath a lava field — and the rushing Barnafoss. Overnight near Borgarnes and The Settlement Center.
A full circuit of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula — 90 km of wild, varied scenery. The Snæfellsjökull glacier volcano dominates the horizon, made famous by Jules Verne. Djúpalónssandur's jet-black pebble beach holds the ancient lifting stones used to test the strength of prospective fishermen. Seal colonies, sea arches and remote fishing villages line the coast.
Take the highland Kaldidalur pass to Þingvellir National Park (UNESCO) — where the North American and Eurasian plates are visibly pulling apart, and the world's oldest parliament first convened in 930 AD. Strokkur geyser erupts reliably every few minutes at the Geysir geothermal area. Gullfoss thunders into a deep gorge. Finish at Keríð, a vivid turquoise crater lake worth a full walk around.
Seljalandsfoss — one of very few waterfalls in the world you can walk behind. Skógafoss plunges 60 metres, often with a rainbow arcing through the spray. Skógar's open-air folk museum tells the story of Icelandic rural life. Dyrhólaey's clifftop lighthouse sits above one of Iceland's largest puffin colonies. Reynisfjara — dramatic black sand backed by towering basalt columns.
Begin at Hveragerði and the geothermal valley of Reykjadalur, where hot springs emerge naturally from the earth. The Reykjanes Peninsula offers lunar lava fields and the Bridge Between Continents — a footbridge crossing the visible rift between tectonic plates. Round off the journey with a soak in the world-famous Blue Lagoon before your final night in the capital.
A final morning to browse Reykjavik's design shops, grab a coffee by the harbour or simply soak in the atmosphere before heading out. Return your car at Keflavik Airport and fly home with seven days of Iceland's finest landscapes fresh in the memory.

Self-drive packages include accommodation and car rental. Payment is processed in euros (€) via Visa or MasterCard.
