The trip starts with the Golden Circle route and continues to the highland Kjölur road that runs between glaciers Langjökull and Hofsjökull. From there the trip takes us to the most powerful waterfall in Europe - Dettifoss Waterfall. The tour includes also the Mývatn area, famous by its natural beauty, the Jökulsárgljúfur river bank and Ásbyrgi canyon, Ice Lagoon, Vatnajokull National Park and Park Skaftafell. One of the highlights of the trip is the ride on the Fjallabak road and the visit in the colorful mountain of Landmannalaugar nature reserve. A real 4X4 trip and big adventure!

Car pick up is at the airport. A short drive will take you to Reykjavik. After check-in at the hotel and quick arrangements, you may want to take a walk in the downtown of Reykjavik. Reykjavik City which was recognized the "Green City" for several times, offers to the travelers a great variety of attractions: museums and landmark buildings, such as the Hallgrímskirkja church at the downtown. Do not miss a relaxing walk around Lake Tjörnin where you can watch different kinds of swans and ducks and a visit to the Pearl building "Perlan" with the most impressive panoramic view of the whole city.

You will leave Reykjavik and head to the Thingvellir National Park, geologically unique place. Research has made it clear that Þingvellir is a natural wonder on an international scale, a place where the earth's crust is broken into tectonic plates that rise above ground. This place has also historical importance as a place of convening of the first parliament in the world. The place was recognized by the UNESCO as the World Heritage Site in 2004. You will continue driving along the eastern shore of the lake to the colorful caldera of the Kerið – a volcanic crater lake. Not far away up the road you will stopover at the waterfall Faxi. From there you will continue to the geysers park to visit the Strokkur, bursting every 5 minutes. There the road will take us to the waterfall Gullfoss, one of the biggest waterfalls in Iceland. The route takes us through Kjölur highland road that crosses Iceland from the north to the south. The road passes to the left of the lava rocks and between the huge glaciers Langjökull and Hofsjökull – it will be the breathtaking view. The route is on the ancient path that served horse riders who were coming from North Iceland each spring for the public meeting at Thingvellir, the Icelandic nation parliament. Along the uninhabited mountainous route one can see panoramic views of the mountains in all sizes and shapes, two ice fields Langjökull and Hofsjökull, the black desert, and facing the area of Kerlingarfjöll the view of the variety of colorful mountains. It is the real mountain road, with peaks, spectacular canyons and unusual colorful thermal areas. In the middle of our today's trip you will get to the site Hveravellir - active geothermal area, with geysers and hot springs, an ideal place for bathing in thermal water. The Kjölur road ends in the green valleys of Skagafjordur where the contrasts of Iceland are reflected by the tremendous change in the landscape. This area is famous because of the horse breeders. You can take a horse riding tour at the farms if you are either a beginner or an experienced rider. Here you recommend to visit a museum of the grass-roof houses in Glaumbær and the tiny church Víðimýri. You will finish our day in Akureyri, the main town of North Iceland. The morning will be dedicated to a short tour in Akureyri. On our way to the lake Mývatn you will visit the impressive Godafoss Waterfall (the waterfall of the gods). The rest of the day you'll spend walking around the many natural wonders of the Lake Mývatn area. Lake's area is known worldwide thanks to the abundance of seabirds here, for many species of ducks this area has the perfect conditions for breeding. All around the lake you can see amazing rock and geological formations in a large variety of landscapes. Some of the major sites in the area: Dimmuborgir lava formations, Námaskarð, pseudo-craters of Skútustaðagígar, natural baths of Mývatn, Krafla volcano and many other stunning landscape places. You will continue north to the town of Husavik, known as global capital of the whale watching. Husavik was the first town in Iceland that offered whale watching cruises. Here the museum of whales is located where a whole skeleton of whale is displayed. Here you will join one of the cruises that leave out of Husavik port to watch these gentle and amazing creatures in their natural environment. Estimated driving distance: 200 km.

You will walk in the National Park Jökulsárgljúfur and explore the beauty of the nature that it offers to see. Canyon Ásbyrgi is a horseshoe-shaped unusual and spectacular canyon – make sure not to miss it. The park's territory is 150 square kilometers and it aims to protect the canyon formed by the river and the great diversity of plants and birds in it. Jökulsárgljúfur canyon (the name means glacier river canyon) is one of the largest and the most impressive in Iceland. Its length is 25 km, width 1.5 km and the depth in many places more than 100 meters. The canyon is located in one of the most volcanic areas in Iceland. The park includes some of the main attractions in Iceland: Ásbyrgi horseshoe-shaped canyon, rock formations Hljóðaklettar and Dettifoss waterfall – the most powerful waterfall in Iceland. You will ride by the spectacular scenery of the East Fjords, each fjord has a different story and its own world. On our way you can stop to see Petra's stone collection at the village Stöðvarfjörður, it will be interesting to see the largest collection of beautiful stones collected in this area. Another interesting option is to take a boat trip to the island Papey near Djúpivogur where thousands of Puffins are nesting in the summer in addition to many other sea birds. You will head southward through Lónsöræfi, you will cross Almannaskard road tunnel and look out over the beautiful scenery. You will continue to Höfn, flourishing fisherman's village located on the edge of the glacier Vatnajökull, the largest in Europe, covering approximately 8% of the territory of Iceland. The village Höfn, famous for its lobsters and is also a good base for trips to the glacier Vatnajökull. Estimated driving distance: 250 km.

You will continue west towards Jökulsárlón Ice Lagoon, one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country. Huge icebergs, real sculptures of the nature floating over the clear waters of the lagoon at the foot of the glacier Breiðamerkurjökull. Boat trip among the floating icebergs is very popular during the summer. You will continue along the south coast to the national park Skaftafell, located at the foot of the glacier. The park includes many options for walking tours. The natural beauty of Skaftafell is the result of favorable weather conditions and exceptional combination of fire and ice. An interesting hiking trail in the park brings us to the "Black Waterfall" - Svartifoss, named so because of the hexagonal basalt columns surrounding it, one of the most picturesque waterfalls in Iceland. From Skaftafell you will continue through the sandy swamp Skeiðarársandur to the village with the impossible to pronounce name - Kirkjubæjarklaustur, you will visit Kirkjugólfið (natural floor made of hexagonal basalt) which is located only few minutes' walk away from the road. You'll visit Fjadrargljufur - beautiful narrow canyon just a few kilometers west of Kirkjubæjarklaustur. Estimated driving distance: 180 km.

You will head to Landmannalaugar Nature Reserve by the Fjallabak route. This route is considered to be one of the most beautiful in Iceland and its culmination is the colorful mountain nature reserve Landmannalaugar. Eldgjá is one of the most interesting sights in this part of the country. In this place the nature has created a unique splitting of the mountains during which was formed a giant cut as long of as 30 km long in the ground, in some places it reaches up to 600 meters wide and 200 meters deep. This volcanic fissure is considered to be the largest of its kind in the world. Further you will see the waterfall Ófærufoss, considered one of the most beautiful in the country, framed by a natural bridge which collapsed a few years ago. Then you'll head to the center of the island towards the reserve Landmannalaugar which is known for its colorful rhyolite mountains. Our route will pass through a variety of canyons, valleys and ridges of black lava, lava plains surrounded by colorful mountains are a captivating sight. Mountain road of Landmannaleið offers the most beautiful views in all the area. At Landmannalaugar there are traveler's cabin and a popular camping site. Near the cabin there is a warm water pool created by the confluence of the natural hot water with the cold water from the springs. You will visit the Þjórsárdalur Valley, including the Stöng – the farm buried under the volcanic ash during the eruption of Hekla in 1104. On our way back, you'll ride under the mountain Hekla, the most active volcano in Iceland and one of the most famous volcanoes in the world. You will continue to the Reykjanes Peninsula known for its volcanic phenomena and for being in the area of the Blue Lagoon. You will enter the Krýsuvík site with boiling mud pits, and then you will end up the trip at the amazing Blue Lagoon spa.
