The History of Hvammsvík
The Hvammsvík area in Whale Fjord is one of Iceland’s oldest settlements. Interestingly, during World War II, the Allies built several structures there, including docks, warehouses, ammunition depots, and sports facilities. American soldiers, familiar with the benefits of geothermal water, even built a hot pool on the shore, the remains of which can still be seen today.
