Take a walking tour of the lively downtown area, visit Hallgrímskirkja Church for panoramic views, stroll around Tjörnin Pond, and experience the eco-friendly charm of the city.
Start your adventure with the famous Golden Circle. Visit Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO site and the birthplace of the world’s first parliament. Marvel at Strokkur Geyser’s eruptions and the majestic Gullfoss Waterfall. Continue to Kerið Crater, then head to the South Coast to see Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls. End the day at Dyrhólaey Nature Reserve and Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach, known for its dramatic basalt columns and puffin nesting sites (seasonal).
Drive through Eldhraun, the world’s largest lava field, to Skaftafell National Park, a stunning blend of glaciers and volcanic landscapes. Hike to Svartifoss Waterfall, framed by basalt columns, and visit the massive Vatnajökull Glacier. Continue to Jökulsárlón Ice Lagoon, where floating icebergs and playful seals create a magical scene. Take a short trip to the nearby Diamond Beach, where icebergs from the lagoon wash up on the shore, creating a breathtaking contrast against the black sand. Explore the scenic Lónsöræfi wilderness before reaching the charming village of Djupivogur in the East Fjords.
Drive through the picturesque East Fjords, with towering mountains and tranquil fjords. Stop in Egilsstaðir, the capital of East Iceland, before crossing the Námaskarð Pass, a geothermal wonder with boiling mud pools and steaming vents. Arrive at Lake Mývatn, a haven for birdwatchers and home to volcanic landscapes such as Dimmuborgir, Hverfjall, and Krafla. Don’t miss Víti Crater and the Mývatn Nature Baths for a relaxing soak.
Head to Akureyri, the vibrant “Capital of the North.” On the way, stop at Goðafoss Waterfall, known as the “Waterfall of the Gods.” Explore Akureyri’s botanical garden and charming streets. Continue to Skagafjörður, a region famous for its horse farms and Viking history. Visit the grass-roofed Glaumbær Museum and the historic Víðimýri Church.
Journey through West Iceland, stopping at Vatnsnes Peninsula to see seal colonies. Hike to the top of Grábrók Crater for stunning views and visit the nearby Glanni Waterfall. Drive through Borgarfjörður, under Whale Bay via a tunnel, before reaching Reykjavik.
