An 8-day journey through Iceland's iconic wonders — the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, the Golden Circle, Hraunfossar, South Coast waterfalls and Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon.
This itinerary covers the highlights of southern and western Iceland, showcasing the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, Borgarfjörður district, and Europe’s largest geothermal spring. Visit the mesmerizing Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls and the historical site of Reykholt. Experience the iconic Golden Circle route, including Thingvellir National Park, Geysir, Kerið Crater, and Gullfoss waterfall. Stroll along Iceland’s spectacular southern coast, featuring the majestic Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss waterfalls, and explore the dramatic black-sand beaches of Dyrhólaey.
Pick up your car at the airport. After hotel check-in, take a leisurely stroll through Reykjavik's charming downtown — one of the world's cleanest and most vibrant capitals.
Depart Reykjavik, passing Whale Bay (Hvalfjörður) and Glymur, Iceland's tallest waterfall. Visit Reykholt and Snorrastofa, then explore the enchanting Barnafoss and Hraunfossar waterfalls. End the day in Borgarnes near The Settlement Center.
Today we spend the day on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula — a true natural gem. Over just 90 kilometres the peninsula packs an extraordinary variety of landscapes. At its western tip, Snæfellsjökull National Park combines a volcano, a glacier and dramatic coastlines in one setting. The beach at Djúpalónssandur is one of the most fascinating spots in the lava park: a shore of jet-black pebbles, two deep and silent lagoons, and unusual rock formations with the glacier looming behind. Scattered among the stones you'll find rusted metal fragments — the wreck of a British trawler that sank here in 1948, now a monument to the lost crew. Look out also for four rounded lifting stones of different sizes: these are Iceland's legendary strength-testing stones from seafaring folklore. Only those who could lift the heaviest were deemed fit to sail on fishing boats — try your luck. Continuing around the peninsula we pass through picturesque fishing villages; keep an eye on the water's edge, where seals often bask on the rocks. We end the day back in the Borgarnes area.
Cross the highland Kaldidalur pass to Þingvellir National Park (UNESCO), where tectonic plates meet and the world's first parliament was held. End the day visiting Geysir, thundering Gullfoss, and hike Keríð Crater for incredible views.
Drive along Iceland's southern coast, visiting Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls. Explore Skógar's historical museum, the puffin-inhabited Dyrhólaey cliffs, and the stunning black-sand beaches near Vík.
Journey through Skaftafell National Park, with hiking trails to Svartifoss and glacier viewpoints. End the day at the iconic Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon, where drifting icebergs create an unforgettable landscape, and the sparkling Diamond Beach.
Head west and make your first stop in Hveragerði, gateway to Reykjadalur — a geothermally active valley where boiling springs and steaming vents break through the earth right between the houses. A short trail through the hillside brings you face to face with Iceland's volcanic energy at its most raw. Continue onto the Reykjanes Peninsula, where the walk across the Bridge Between Continents is one of Iceland's most symbolic experiences — a footbridge spanning the visible rift between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. End the day with a long, well-earned soak in the world-famous Blue Lagoon, its mineral-rich turquoise waters set dramatically against a backdrop of black lava, before heading into Reykjavík for your final night.
Spend your final morning enjoying Reykjavik's charming streets, local cafes, and design shops. Return your car at Keflavik Airport and fly home carrying memories of Iceland's most spectacular southern and western landscapes.
